TEATRO LIRICO DI CAGLIARI | Sardinia Opera
2025–2026 Season: Opera and Dance
BEYOND. A Theatre that Transforms (Itself).
A theatre for music, for the territory, for the future.
The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari is the leading institution for music production and promotion in Sardinia, and one of the most prolific and valuable on the national and international scene. With a programme ranging from opera to dance, from symphonic music to new contemporary stage languages, the theatre stands as a cultural landmark for local, national and international audiences. From the heart of Cagliari, its activity radiates across the island, contributing to cultural growth and dialogue between tradition and innovation.
We have chosen the title Beyond – A Theatre that Transforms (Itself) for our new season, to share with our audience the vision of an institution that wishes to look towards the future with energy and enthusiasm, grounded in its historical heritage yet ready to embrace the challenges of our time.
The 2025–2026 Season unfolds in three main sections. Today we present Opera and Dance, together with a special programme leading up to the grand inauguration in December. The Concert Season 2026 will be revealed in autumn, completing a wide and dynamic artistic vision.

The Opera Season offers a balance of masterpieces, rare gems and new interpretative perspectives. Each production is conceived as a unique experience, where musical excellence meets strong directorial identity. Established voices and emerging talents share the stage with the Teatro Lirico Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by renowned maestros. Powerful music, timeless masterpieces, and milestones such as Turandot: productions that will make us cry, laugh, reflect and dream.
Bodies on stage, music in motion
The Dance Season confirms the Teatro Lirico as a privileged stage for great Italian and international dance. Prestigious companies, acclaimed choreographers and innovative visions meet in a programme that ranges from the classical repertoire to contemporary creation. Highlights include Sasha Waltz (hailed as Pina Bausch’s heir), Maurice Béjart, Angelin Preljocaj, Edward Clug, and Roberto Bolle’s return to Sardinia with his latest grand project Caravaggio. The season opens with an essential classic: The Nutcracker.
A new brand to tell the story of the Lirico di Cagliari
Inspired by leading international theatres and by the Mediterranean, crossroads of millennia of cultural traditions, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari launches Sardinia Opera: a brand designed to strengthen its international image. The Lirico is not only Sardinia’s theatre, nor simply one of Italy’s great opera houses — it is a cultural hub projected onto the European and international stage. A theatre embracing younger generations, welcoming audiences from all over the world, fostering cultural exchanges that are essential to the renewed vision theatres must embrace in the 21st century.
The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari thus presents itself as a living, open and inclusive institution — a theatre that listens, creates, educates, moves, connects. A theatre for everyone.
